NEW BEGINNINGS

Spring is here and newest crop of students have finally arrived at Crux Academy and Nebulae Institute. Both campuses are abuzz with activity as first years filter in, some confused, others excited and honored to be attending such a prestigious institution. Class assignments would be found on the large bulletin board toward the front of campus, and while some friends may find themselves once again sharing the same class, others will be given the opportunity to nurture new relationships with future friends (or enemies).
Classes for the first day will be short, punctuated by a welcoming ceremony led by each school's respective headmaster and headmistress, as well as an upperclassman that has some significance to the rest of the student body. Students are then permitted to take the rest of the day for themselves, to get acclimated to the campus as well as Galactica, should they so choose. Why not explore the school? Take a trip into the city? Or perhaps get to know your dorm mate, classmates or fellow faculty members? Or perhaps, if you are that sort of person, terrorize the town? The choice is yours.

[ Watching the incoming first year students was always interesting, and it was fairly obvious who was here for their first time and who wasn't. This would be Lux's third year now, and by this point she was a seasoned pro when it came to first week festivities. She even volunteered to be part of the welcoming committee this year!
Seeing someone she assumed was a lost and confused student, Lux strides toward them, all smiles. ]
Hi there! You look like you could use some help.
[GALACTICA]
[ After a day of greeting people and escorting them around, it was nice to just get lost in the city. There was always something interesting to see, and shedding her uniform for something a bit more comfortable, a star-shaped pendant hanging at her chest, she moved through shops and cafes, simply looking around.
Today was a perfect day, not too hot and not too cold. Surely nothing bad would happen today. ]
no subject
Oh, there you are. Could I get a scone?
[I think he thinks you're a waitress, Lux]
no subject
Wow, it was really busy here today, she wasn't sure she would have anywhere to sit... ]
no subject
[A tug on the sleeve]
I'd like to order something.
no subject
[ Excuse you. She pulls her arm away, looking both confused and a little irked. Yeah, and what did that have to do with her. ]
So then order something?

no subject
Fine. But just this once.
[ She walks toward the front to put in his order for him. He was probably new around here, or from a world where things like manners didn't exist.
Returning after a moment, she puts a hand on her hip. ]
There. They said it would be right out.
no subject
You could probably also stand to unbutton your top a bit. Waitresses tend to do better if they flash a bit of boob.
no subject
It all clicks, and while she should probably take this whole thing and laugh, the last comment he makes negates any humor from the situation. ]
Excuse me?

I don't know where you come off, but I'll have you know that, one, I have no desire to "unbutton my top a bit," and two don't even work here! I put in your order with one of the wait staff out of common courtesy. You know, manners? That thing you don't have? You would do well to learn some!

[ Said out of reflex more than anything. She takes a deep breath through her nose. Keep your cool, Lux, this guy was just a chauvinistic pig. It wasn't the worst thing in the world.
Just stay calm, and don't say anything you might regret. Take the higher ground and just walk away. ]
You're obviously not from around here, so let me give you a bit of advice.
[ Or not. Her smile is sickeningly sweet. ]
People expect to be treated with respect, even waitresses. And if you tell any girl to show a little skin for an extra tip that she has the right to punch you on the spot. She would be doing us all a favor. Just be thankful I'm not that kind of girl.

Galactica
Nothing bad....
Nothing bad except Lock!]
Yo, Crux girl! [The call comes from somewhere up above where the villainous delinquent is just casually floating about in midair. Somewhere along the line he's picked up a snack, a pastry as that seems to be the other of the day, flaky and beautifully frosted.
... Aaand he's chucking it right at Lux with very little warning.] Heads up!
[He's just testing the competition's reflexes!]

Lux stopped dead in her tracks, her muscles tense. She wasn't even in uniform, how did he--never mind, it wasn't important. Quickly whipping toward the sound, she noticed something flying at her.
Three years of Lacrosse club weren't for nothing, and thinking quickly on her feet, the blond gripped her purse, using it as a makeshift shield, swinging at the flying dessert and deflecting it. She didn't even realize what it was before the baked good landed with a soft "fmph" on the ground, frosting side first.
...Okay, we aren't going to tell her dormmate about that. Such violence against pastries might be considered treason of the highest degree.
It is at that time that she spots where it came from, her eyes locking onto Lock, a bit of a wry smirk on her lips. ]
You're lucky I'm not someone else. I'm willing to forgive you for that.
no subject
You are? But that's so boring. [He drops out of the air, drifting down to the ground beside the discarded pastry and stomping a foot down on it for good measure. Somebody probably put a lot of work into making those things with their bare hands... it's the only fate they deserve.] And here I was thinking of trying something new and starting the year off with a good grudge, but I guess you're not the kind of person I'm looking for....
no subject
Sorry, I'm not here to entertain.
[ Tipping her chin up slightly, she gave him a sickeningly sweet smile. Cause trouble and you'll regret it. If it was a grudge you wanted, she would be more than happy to oblige. ]
If you're trying to provoke me, it won't work. Besides, it looks like you're by yourself today. Don't you know it's better to make friends on the first day of school instead of playing the lone wolf?
no subject
If Lux is on high alert than Lock's just... about as calm as he can be. Slouched a little, hands in his pockets.]
Friends? Nah, that's not my style. [He shrugs a shoulder, sighing.] Who wants to waste their time hanging around and watching the new kids wander around with those stupid looks on their faces? I'd much rather come into town and see if I could find something fun to do. But so far it looks like you're boring too.
with the proper blond's journal this time
[ He was toying with her. If he really had any aim to do anything, he would have done it by now. Flipping her hair a bit with her hand, she put the same hand on her hip. ]
I'm not here to entertain some pastry-throwing thug. I have better things to do with my time off.
[ Like apparently stand here and snark instead. Details. ]
no subject
Hmm... and now you're calling me names. I would've thought that a student at Crux Academy wouldn't be that rude... just my luck, I ran into the class dunce.
[A shrug.]
Buuut, I guess the hair should've been a dead giveaway.
no subject
It isn't name calling, it's truth. If I knew your name, I might use it. But then, if the shoe fits.
no subject
[There's nothing forced about his grin. The strain in her smile isn't too hard to see and he just shrugs again.]
I guess so. I'd introduce myself, but a hopeless dunce like you don't need to know my name.
no subject
Then I suppose you'll be nothing more than a petty thug.
no subject
[He gives a laugh as those weird eyes on his hood shift away from Lux to look out over the crowd of people on the street instead.]
... How about I go ahead and show you how petty I am? All I need is a quick volunteer....
