WE'VE GOT SCHOOL SPIRIT!

With the first term of the school year in full swing, and the first few weeks going off without a hitch, clubs, intramural teams and official sports teams at both Crux Academy and Nebulae Institute have begun meeting for the first time. With a wide number of different extra curricular and other various things to do around campus outside of class, students are highly encouraged to take part in one or multiple goings-on around their school. Both schools will be hosting an involvement fair (at different times, conveniently enough) in order to bolster enrollment in the various clubs or teams, and students are encouraged to at least give these different opportunities a try.

Not seeing a club or organization that catches your fancy? That's all right! Just make one yourself. So long as you have enough members (neither school has gone into too much detail about what constitutes "enough"), and are willing to share--or fight for, as the case may be--club room or field space, then you're set!

Interested in taking a more responsible approach? Various businesses around Galactica have begun hiring part time students. While many of the jobs are more than willing to take on Crux students, there are a few establishments that seem to prefer the cunning ways of Nebulae's student body. These jobs run the gamut between retail, babysitting, hospitality--really anything.

Additionally, the vocational school for monsters is looking for assistance in getting their students real-world experience. Be it helping them terrorize the town or giving them something to fight, this volunteer work is easy enough to find, and a good way to get some real world experience. Participation is highly encouraged.

Both involvement fairs & Galactica

[ option a - crux academy involvement fair ]

[ Woe betide anyone who's trying to hand out fliers to promote tbeir organization at this fair (and anyone who attempts to receive one). Faster than the human eye can track, a hand darts out of seemingly nowhere and replaces that flier with one for the Nebulae Institute Go Club. You've been Sion'd.

Ignoring the person trying to hand out their own fliers, she addresses the would-be recruit. ] Reading the opponent's moves is a key feature of combat. Join me and whet your competitive spirit as our schools battle for superiority! "Springtime of youth"!

[ option b - nebulae institute involvement fair ]

[ Fully half of the fair has now been occupied by a 19X19 grid drawn in tape on the floor. Dozens and dozens of tiny panda mascots - all white on one side of the grid, all black on the other - crowd the edges waiting their turn to be told where to stand on the "board".

Lording over all of this is Sion, calling placements to both sides as a demonstration. ] 4-4. 17-16. 16-4.

[ A small table set up with various books on Go also features a sign claiming parties interested in the Go club can solve sample puzzles for prizes. ]

[ option c - galactica ]

[ A giant soccer ball is terrorizing the city! It's rolling down the street, disrupting traffic, and generally making a nuisance of itself in the hopes that someone will come see what all the fuss is about.

And riding atop it, sitting in formal seiza style with her arms crossed, is Sion. How's she staying balanced? They aren't magical girls for nothing. ] "Needle in a haystack"! An ally this worthy is rare indeed!

Springtime of youth?

[Ban looked at the new Go Club flier in his hands.] What exactly is the Go Club?

[He was rather curious. She seemed to be a nebulae student.]

"Fresh blood!" Allow me to explain.

[ This Crux student has Sion's full attention. She holds up one of the flyers she still has in her hands. A mix of Crux and Nebulae students would be perfect for her club, just as she'd strategized. For, after all, the essence of Go is: ] White against black, good versus evil. Go is the ultimate strategy game, a microcosm of life itself. "Survival of the fittest"! "Sturm und Drang!"

[ She whips out a Go stone from nowhere and, holding it between two fingers in a salute, winks. ] Let's GO together!

Huh. I've never thought of Go like that. It might make a good manga plot actually.

[He was intrigued after all. Did this mean an open competition or something entirely different?]

[ He's interested? ...For manga?

In any case, though, Sion must only move forward! She flips the flyer over. ] There are sample problems on the back. If you enjoy solving them, we'd love for you to give the Go club a go.

[ And she just happens to have a pencil! That she pulled out of thin air! Like a ninja! Here you (G)o.

Said problems, incidentally, range in difficulty to "enticing the newbies" to "SION WHY". But they're all highly-appraised tsumego. ]

Well I can give it a go then...

[Taking the pencil, he started to work on the puzzles. About the third one in, he's making a face.] This is pretty tough, I have to admit.

[ Sion looks over his shoulder to check up on his progress with the other two. Not bad. So, then, his skill level.... ] Read ahead. Battles are won by thinking at least ten moves in advance.

If you make your move here - [ Who knows where this other pencil came from, or why it has a cute little panda pencil topper, but there it is. ] Where is the enemy most likely to strike?

Hmm, ten moves in advance? So most likely... [and he marked the area down. It was close, at least.] Wait no...

This is tougher than I expected.

[ Sion nods. And yet: ] "Practice makes perfect." Think about it and consult with me anytime. We'd love to cultivate your skills in the Go Club.

[ And by "we" she means "she" since she's currently the only member, whoops. Apparently most supervillains are more interested in going out and smashing things than in honing their tactical prowess beforehand.

That or they don't have armies. But Sion doesn't believe in thinking small. ]

[This was really neat, and it wasn't like all of the supervillains were evil, just had different directions in life. This actually seemed kinda neat.]

[ Sion nods, confident he'll be showing up. That's one down. ] "Polish through rivalry"! [ SESSA TAKUMA ]

[He probably will. This was really interesting to him after all.] Heh, good then!

[ Sion salutes him again before turning to try and snipe someone else with her flyer. Outmaneuvering the opposition is another key tenet of Go! ]

[ wow, that sure is a giant soccer ball. Normally this is kind of just another day for him, but there don't seem to be any students around to take the lead...

Guess he'll have to take care of this one. ]

If you don't quieten down, I'll have to take matters into my own hands! Hee hee! [ With his small stature and generally weird demeanor, he definitely doesn't look like a teacher...but he sure seems confident. ]

[ No, Sion doesn't look intimidated, not even a little bit. She knows better than to judge an opponent based on their looks, but the only people with authority over her here should be the Nebulae faculty, correct? And she doubts this person qualifies.

So she closes her eyes, dismissing his defiance. ] Overriden. Your challenge carries no weight. Onward!!

[ The soccer ball, happy to have found a good partner from the monster internship, rumbles down the street. If someone doesn't stop it soon, it's in danger of running a red light! ]

[ Plague Knight is undeterred. In fact, he just seems to find it funny. He's been underestimated before, so he's totally fine with this. ]

Very well! [ And - wow, those sure are bombs. Those sure are explosions growing rapidly bigger in front of the soccer ball. Even if they don't do much damage - he's not sure what the blast resistance of a giant soccer ball is - the explosive recoil should be enough to knock it back. ]

[ Bombs?! Sion hadn't expected that! Certainly not from those of Crux Academy! The soccer ball is blown backwards, Sion throwing up an arm to shield herself from the blasts. ] "Pride before a fall!" In that case -

[ She stands, then leaps from the ball to allow it full mobility. ] I shall also unsheath my sword!

[ Sion, that's a microphone you're holding, not a sword. But she gestures to the enemy with enough gusto that the soccer ball doesn't seem to care.

Forget just rolling down the street! Now it's trying to crush the intruder. ]

[ Plague Knight is just one of those awkward ducks at Crux. Reformed villain, yes, but...he's not exactly heroic. ]

A microphone? Not the oddest choice of weaponry I've seen! [ Well, it kind of is, but he ain't backin down from that shit. He whips out his cane; it's got a sharp, pointy attachment.

He leaps clear with a sudden explosion (he's using the explosion to propel himself. does everything he do have to do with explosions? yes.) and tosses a few bombs at the soccer ball with accuracy, before landing in front of Sion and pointing his cane dramatically.

It probably ruins the atmosphere somewhat that he's probably Sion's height or even a little smaller, to be honest. ]

[ The soccer ball is blown backwards by the blasts, but Sion - even at canepoint - just smiles. ] I won't need it.

[ The ball makes use of the blast to bounce off a nearby lightpost with extra force, propelling itself forward (and denting the post) towards her opponent. Now all she has to do is dodge herself at the last possible second!

Well, that and prepare to sing, just in case. She predicted what he was going to do (more or less). But not having a backup strategy would make her all too easy to read as well! ]
